| Vision Therapy for Reading Difficulties (Eye Scan) Therapist qualifications and background Qualified Orthoptist with extensive experience in both the NHS and Higher Education Sectors. Orthoptists are expert in the diagnosis and treatment of anomalies of the use of both eyes together (for example, binocular instability; squint; focusing difficulties), eye movements (tracking difficulties, eye movement disorders due to eye muscle and/or nerve abnormalities; double vision) and poor vision. The clinic at Medicalternative is devoted entirely to the diagnosis of visual difficulties associated with reading problems and consequently poor readers, dyslexics and children with Mears-Irlen Syndrome, a visual perceptual anomaly in which individuals read with greater ease, fluency and competence with a coloured overlay or tinted glasses, comprise the patient group. How does your therapy work? Vision therapy can be loosely described as ocular physiotherapy! The use of both eyes is strengthen as are all the functions which are brought into play and required when reading. Particular emphasis is placed on tracking exercises. What does your therapy involve / what can a client expect? Exercises are prescribed on a daily basis. The daily exercise programme is not long and normally no more than 10 minutes. It is however, important to carry out the exercises as prescribed. The exercise material is provided and individuals attend, normally monthly to six weekly. How many sessions will the client need? As every individual is unique, it is difficult to be exact, however a ball park figure of 8 to 10 treatment sessions (this excludes the first assessment) is realistic. What days are you at Medicalternative? Variable Saturday and Sunday clinics telephone 0131 225 5656 for dates and times. What is the best method for the client to make an appointment? Phone Medicalternative directly and request an appointment. | ||||||||||||
