I graduated from St Andrews University in Medical Science (1976) and completed my medical training at Manchester Medical School (1979).
Following extensive hospital experience I have spent 12 years as a partner in General Practice.
Acupuncture has always been one of my interests and I attended a dedicated training course in Beijing in 1997. I have found that this technique offers great benefit to patients with complex or musculoskeletal conditions. It is becoming increasingly difficult to offer such services within General Practice. Acupuncture has been used for over 3,000 years and is known to activate the neurovascular bundles, or Meridians, to promote the body's own healing processes. Recent papers confirming acupuncture's usefulness include 'Acupuncture for idiopathic headache' (Cochrane Review, 2004) and 'Is acupuncture effective for the treatment of chronic pain?: a systematic review' (Cochrane, 2000).
