Is Colon Hydrotherapy Safe for Everyone?

Colon hydrotherapy may not be suitable for some individuals who are pregnant, have ongoing serious illness or have been taking steroids long term. If you have any serious illness or the above cautions please email colonics@medicalternative.com for advice.

Our current clients range in age from 19 to 70 years at an approximate ratio of 40% male: 60% female, from all walks of life and states of health.

What Happens At My First Appointment?

On arriving at Medicalternative our reception team will ask you to complete a short health and lifestyle questionnaire. Your therapist will discuss your answers, explain the procedure before asking you to sign the consent form. Then your hydrotherapy session will last 30 - 45 minutes

Should I Do Anything to Prepare for My First Treatment?

You should drink at least 2 litres of fluid every day, this includes water, fruit juices, smoothies, etc. Do not eat 2hrs prior to your appointment. Bring details of any medication or supplements you take.

Is Colon Hydrotherapy Painful?

No. Initially you might find having the tube inserted a little uncomfortable or perhaps a feeling of 'fullness' in your abdomen which is caused by the water. Your treatment should NOT be painful. Most clients describe "unusual sensations". The Medicalternative team are highly experienced and will tailor your treatment to meet your needs and comfort is paramount, they will ask throughout your treatment how you are doing and will respond to your feedback.

How Will I Feel After My Treatment?

The majority of clients report that they feel lighter, refreshed and a general sense of well being. You should feel relief from symptoms such as bloating, tiredness, indigestion, etc. Due to the detoxifying effects many clients sleep better.

Will I Experience Diarrhoea Afterwards?

No. Your bowels will have been emptied and able to resume normal function so there should be no urgency or diarrhoea.

What Should I Do Following My Treatment?

You should allow yourself to relax but it is acceptable to resume your normal activities. You should avoid rich or heavy foods and have something light such as a soup, salad, vegetables, chicken, fish or fruit.

An Aftercare Advice Sheet will be given to you at your first treatment.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Most people require a course of treatments, an average of 3 - 6 over 3 weeks to 6 months. Our team will discuss your goals and provide you with a tailor made program. We find the best results are achieved by those who are realistic to their needs and are motivated to follow the advice given to them. Very rarely is one treatment enough but is a good starting marker for identifying what course of treatment will suit you, based your therapist's experience.

Can I Have Colon Hydrotherapy While Menstruating?

Yes, unless you suffer cramps or very heavy bleeding. Most clients use a tampon on the day of their treatment if bleeding heavily.

Is the Equipment Disposable?

Yes. At Medicalternative we are careful to provide the best service possible and to that effect our Colon Hydrotherapy team have single use, disposable equipment which is hygienic and prevents the risk of cross infection. You will see a fresh pack being opened for you.
