Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis and a variety of other techniques, to access the unconscious part of the brain and help patients access inner strengths and remove any blocks or obstacles that are holding them back from having a richer, more rewarding life.
What Can It Treat?
Hypnotherapy is a safe, natural and very effective technique. It can be used to deal with many problems and challenges such as:
- Bad habits
- Anxiety, stress and panic attacks
- Phobias – such as a fear of flying or spiders
- Various addictions, such as smoking
- Weight management
- Pain during childbirth
In general, hypnotherapy can help you take control of your thoughts, feelings, emotions, doubts and worries.
Hypnotherapy is about using a person’s own resources to help them achieve their goals. If you choose to have the treatment you will harness your natural abilities and put yourself back in control: Hypnotherapy can help create a more positive you, no matter what life may have thrown at you.
Although significant benefits can be obtained from a single hypnotherapy session, best results are normally achieved through a course of weekly or fortnightly sessions. The overall length of treatment will depend on the issues being addressed and the extent to which you wish to explore and resolve the challenges you are facing.
At Medicalternative we have a number of expert hypnotherapists all of whom bring unique skills and specialisms to their treatment sessions.
How Does It Work?
Hypnosis is derived from the ancient Greek word 'Hypnos' meaning sleep. Whilst hypnosis is not sleep, it is an altered state of consciousness; a state of being fully awake, conscious and in control but with a wonderful sensation of very deep relaxation when the mind and body are completely rested and in harmony with each other.
At this level of relaxation the subconscious or inner mind can be accessed. This is the seat of all emotional and behavioural activity. When this state is achieved it is possible to bring about rapid and dynamic change to remove unwanted behaviour patterns.
When You Visit
-
You will be given an initial consultation to see whether hypnotherapy is appropriate for you. After this consultation, you will start on your course of treatment sessions, which will be customized to your needs.
-
The hypnotherapy process is gentle, realistic and completely confidential. You will be in full control throughout your treatment sessions – even when you are in a deep state of relaxation.
-
During your session, you will be relaxed into a lovely, calm, hypnotic state (where you will be wide awake and fully in control) and you will be given suggestions that will affect your behaviour/feelings once you are out of the hypnotic state - hence the term 'post-hypnotic suggestion'.
-
The type of suggestion given will depend on the symptom you want to help with. If you are trying to stop smoking, a typical suggestion would be 'you will feel a huge sense of pride and pleasure now you are a non smoker' or 'you will find it easy to live your life as a non smoker'. Note that ALL suggestions will be completely positive, and worded very carefully in order to get the best results.
-
During and after treatment you may feel very, very, relaxed, lethargic or quite light and tingly. Hypnosis is often described as a wonderful, deeply pleasant and relaxing experience.
