I qualified as a medical doctor in South Africa in 1998. I worked in South Africa for 2 years in different fields. These included Internal Medicine, Paediatrics, Surgery and Obstetrics and Gynaecology. I moved to Scotland in 2001 and have been working in the NHS in the field of Mental Health since then. For the last 2 years I have been working as a Staff Grade Psychiatrist in the NHS with children and adolescents who have difficulties such as ADHD, Aspergers, behavioural difficulties, depression, anxiety disorders and eating disorders. I have also done 2 years training in Family/Systemic Therapy and have experience of working with families.

I have always been interested in complementary therapies and holistic wellbeing and have trained in and practiced reiki in the past. I have also practiced yoga, tai chi, chi gung and meditation. I was fascinated by craniosacral therapy after having my first session in 2005. I felt it could access the body as a whole and allow for healing on a deeper level. I completed my two year training in Craniosacral Therapy at the Karuna Institute in Devon. I am interested in working with people of all ages and exploring the benefits of Craniosacral Therapy for physical, emotional, psychological and mental difficulties and for spiritual and personal growth.

What is Craniosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle hands on therapy that allows the body to access it's natural capacity for self repair. It works directly with the many levels of human functioning: physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual. Traumas, stresses, strains, whether they are physical or emotional, can leave an impact on the body if they are not resolved. This then can create physical or emotional effects within ourselves for example back pain, migraines, anxiety or depression. A Craniosacral practitioner listens to the body and helps the body to access its own inner healing abilities which allow the body to let go of any restrictions, shock or trauma it is holding. As these are released the body is able to soften and relax and more energy is freed up leaving one with more health and vitality and a greater sense of wellbeing.

What is Craniosacral Therapy helpful for

Craniosacral Therapy is helpful for people of all ages from babies to the elderly and can aid people with almost any condition. Many people have heard of the benefits of Craniosacral Therapy for babies. What a session might involve

A session will involve a number of elements and will usually start with a case history being taken. Any questions the client has can be addressed before, during and after the session. Treatment usually takes place on a treatment table fully clothed. Different feelings might be experienced such as a sense of relaxation. awareness of different parts of the body with tingling or heat being felt. Treatment involves light touch on the body depending on where it may be needed. Session time on the table can vary and sometimes sessions might involve more talking depending on what might be needed. I like to look at things in a holistic way so sometimes looking and discussing various aspects of one's lifestyle might be a helpful focus of a session. The number of sessions needed can vary on the chronicity of the problem and how deeply a client may wish to explore a pattern or difficulty.
