Since qualifying as a Massage Therapist in 1990 I have had my own therapy practice with the therapies listed above as I completed training in each one. I have also worked in Community Projects and Education providing therapy and teaching Massage and Aromatherapy. In recent years I have started running Stress Management courses as well as other self-development courses and EFT training. My passion in life is self development in whatever way is relevant for the individual and my favourite medium for achieving emotional well-being is EFT.
What is it?
By using a gentle tapping procedure that engages the same energy system as acupuncture EFT rapidly balances the body and eases the emotions. This is performed, seated comfortably and fully clothed, by literally tapping on specific acupressure points on the body, although this sounds like an unusual way of clearing emotions the success of EFT in the therapy world is rapidly growing.
There is increasing documented evidence of it's success with many different issues such as:
- Depression
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Anxiety and tension
- Stress and stress related ailments
- Self Development
- Confidence Issues
- Relationship issues
- Conflict with others
- Addictions and weight loss
- Phobias and fears
The main reason for EFT's success is because we are dealing with the emotions underlying these issues at their source - the source being an energy disruption or block in the body. Most people assume that feelings are in our head along with the corresponding thoughts. If that were true we would not experience flutters in the belly when nervous or heaviness in the chest when sad. The thoughts we have trigger off a reaction in the body and the emotions flow from this reaction. If something in the past was too painful to process at the time we store the feelings about it in our body and later on certain similar thoughts can stir these feelings up or remind us of the stressful event.
When we do EFT we deliberately tune into these stressful thoughts in order to clear the emotional energy behind the distress. In this way we have very thorough clearing of the distress around any issues so that, for instance, if dealing with a painful memory that memory then starts to fade as the emotions dissolve around it, common feedback has been "it's as if the event happened to someone else".
What happens during a session?
The session begins with a process of enquiry into the problem being presented; sometimes I will use NLP and Hypnotherapy style techniques to go deeper into the root issues, which will then be dealt with using EFT. Although this work can go very deep, often bringing up old memories or painful feelings related to the problem, using EFT is actually a very kind and gentle process in that we are always seeking to reduce distress to a minimum.
