What is it?
Although not the newest treatment, Botox® is still one of the most popular for dealing with fine lines and wrinkles. Botox® works by inducing hibernation and relaxation of the injected muscles. Because the area is relaxed the skin becomes smooth and unwrinkled resulting in a natural and more youthful appearance. Although Botox® is derived from a toxin, the concentration used for cosmetic purposes is an extremely diluted form and the treatment has many years of effective use worldwide.
The most common areas treated are the deep creases between the eyebrows, frown lines of the forehead, laughter lines and crows feet radiating away from the eyes.
Botox® is a very effective treatment for Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) of the under arms, hands and feet. Botox® has also been proven effective in reducing the severity of migraine.
Treatment
Prior to your initial treatment you will have a consultation with one of our Doctors or Nurses to ensure Botox® is the most appropriate treatment for you. At this stage we would discuss the number of areas to be treated and address any questions/concerns you may have.
Botox® is administered as a series of injections with a very fine needle into the appropriate area(s) of the face and normal activities can be resumed immediately. Some clients describe a slight stinging sensation at the injection site. The beneficial effects can be seen over the following few days and last for 3 to 4 months approximately dependent on gender, skin type, ethnicity, depth of contours and whether you have previously had Botox®.
Side Effects
As with any injection there is the risk of tenderness or swelling at the injection site, normally lasting only 48 hours. Bruising, if it occurs, may last a week or so.

After 2-3 days you will begin to see results however it may take up to 14 days for the full effect to be realised.

Treatment consists of pre treatment counselling (initial treatment only), actual treatment and post treatment advice – up to 1 hour in total. Actual treatment time is 5-10 minutes per site.

No - leave for 4 hours unless applying Bare Escentuals Mineral Make-up.
What follow-up service is there for worries/concerns and is this included in the price?
Telephone advice for any concerns at all. You will be advised to make an appointment for 2 weeks post treatment to allow for assessment and top up if required, which is included in initial cost.
What happens if the treatment goes wrong? Is the patient stuck with the effect for 6 months?
Adverse side effects are rare as long as good technique is used. Minor problems such as Spock eyebrow can be corrected at the follow-up appointment. Eyebrow droop is not as easy to correct, but this is unlikely to last more than a couple of weeks.
