I work in private practice seeing clients on a 1:1 basis and also do student clinics for the Edinburgh branch of the College of Natural Medicine which I enjoy.

I developed an interest in Nutrition and other Complementary Therapies when I discovered there were no medical solutions to my own health problems. I started to read books on Nutrition and found the subject fascinating. I began to understand the profound effects Nutrition can have on physical, emotional and mental health.

I believe that one of the main aspects of Nutritional Therapy is to help educate and empower clients to help them take control of their own health and wellbeing. I believe that Nutritional Therapy is one aspect of 'the whole' for people to improve their quality of life.

What is Nutritional Therapy

"Let Food be your Medicine and Your Medicine be your Food" Hippocrates

Nutritional Therapy is a dynamic natural health care system, focusing on the whole person. Most people do not realise the power of foods. Food and drink can have a dramatic impact on our lives – not just how we feel right now, but also in the future.

The aim of Nutritional Therapy is to help restore health and vitality, produce a reduction in symptoms and halt the progression of disease and poor health and help bring the body closer to its natural balance.

Good Nutrition can help us be healthy in an unhealthy environment, fight off disease and improve energy and enthusiasm for life.

Treatment will often involve detoxification programmes, changes to dietary and eating habits and supplements of vitamins, minerals, essential fats and other appropriate supplements e.g. herbs. Any other changes to lifestyle it is felt would be beneficial for you, would also be discussed.

With today's high paced life; stresses; environmental pollutants; use of pesticides, additives and chemicals in foods and the overuse of processed and convenience foods - it is more important than ever to look at what we eat.

What Can It Help?

Nutritional Therapy can help with a wide range of conditions, including most diseases and a vast array of symptoms which can be physical, mental or emotional. Very often there is no 'disease' label but you can feel 'out of sorts' and have many unexplained symptoms. Many people also just want to know 'what they should be eating for better health'.

Examples of conditions which can be helped are:

  • Allergies and sensitivities
  • Arthritic conditions
  • Circulatory conditions such as high blood pressure
  • Digestive problems such as bloating, constipation, IBS
  • Hormonal problems such as PMT, menopause, PCOS, Thrush
  • Immune problems such as asthma, frequent infections, hayfever
  • Low mood / depression
  • Skin problems such as acne, eczema, dry skin
  • Stress and low energy
  • Weight problems ….. and much more

What Happens at a Consultation?

Each person is treated as an individual as we all have different requirements for health. A full and detailed case history will be taken and you will be asked a lot of different questions about your present condition / symptoms, past medical history, stress levels, family history and diet and lifestyle. I will also ask you to keep a food diary for 3-4 days before coming to see me.

We will discuss potential imbalances which may be making you feel out of balance and then look at changes in your diet which can be made to help improve your condition. Appropriate supplements will also be discussed. I will work with you to focus on what is manageable for you. Clients are encouraged to keep in touch via phone or email in between appointments if there are any problems or queries.

Most people require at least one follow up consultation approx 6 weeks after our first meeting to assess progress, discuss your feelings and update or maintain your present plan.

Testimonials

"I sought Nutritional help after watching TV programmes about how healthy eating can make an enormous difference to your life and health. At the time my skin was troublesome with frequent eruptions of spots and blemishes. I was tired all the time and lacked energy. I also battled with my weight and this resulted in depression and low mood. I contacted Anne and after six weeks of following the programme and retraining my eating habits and taking supplements I began to feel much better physically and mentally, plus my skin improved dramatically. I have also lost a stone in weight. My new way of eating has become a way of life." Alison, Edinburgh

"I would say that I have never felt so good in myself for a long time. I find that any colds I get vanish in days. I have lost more than two stone in weight and my bloating and fluid retention has greatly reduced as have my PMT symptoms. I also think that feeding good food to my son helped him achieve better than expected results in his Standard Grades. I am very glad I phoned Anne when I saw her advertisement." Heather, Linlithgow
