Restylane Filler Restylane is a dermal filler used in the non surgical, cosmetic treatment of unwanted facial deep lines. Completely free of any animal products, Restylane is a natural substance produced within the body - Hyaluronic Acid. Restylane is most effective in the treatment of nose and mouth grooves, forehead lines, frown furrows, smoker's lips, acne pits, crows feet, dimples and some scars. It is also used for shaping facial contours such as cheeks and chin. It can also be beneficial for correcting deep folds and enhancing lips to give a fuller effect. Restylane is injected into the site with a very fine needle, after the application of an anaesthetic cream or a dental anaesthetic if the treatment is around the mouth. The treatment takes an average of 30 - 40 minutes and the effects last for up to one year. Side effects are rare, restricted commonly to redness and swelling at site and some mild bruising may develop but any effect resolves itself within hours or days. Prior to your treatment you will receive an initial 15 minute appointment with one of our doctors or nurses to ensure Restylane is the appropriate treatment for you. We will endeavour to put your mind at ease at this stage by answering any question and alleviating any worries you may have. Frequently Asked Questions What Is It Used For? Restylane, is used for the treatment of wrinkles, lines and lip enhancement. What is it? Restylane is a Hyaloronic Acid (HA) which exists naturally in the body. Its most important function is to carry and bind water. Nutrients, oxygen and hormones are able to pass freely between the gel particles, leaving the skin natural and healthy looking. As the gel breaks down, water takes its place and when totally absorbed, the gel disappears unnoticed from the body. It biodegrades naturally and safely. It is processed under lab conditions and is not extracted from animals. Therefore, it is safe to use instantly without pre-testing. How Long Has It Been Used And Is It Safe? It was launched in 1996 as a filler. Now, more than a million treatments have been carried out successfully. Adverse reactions with Restylane is very rare. Medical use of HA based products is well documented in areas such as eye surgery, urology and orthopaedics. How Long Does The Effect Last? Restylane offers instant results that are long lasting, but not permanent. How long it lasts is very individual. It depends on many factors such as skin structure, lifestyle, age, muscle activity and injection technique. For lip treatment generally 6 months, wrinkles and folds 6 - 12 months. Duration tends to improve with subsequent treatments. A touch-up can be performed at any time. What Happens At The Treatment Session? The clients needs are assessed and the desired area of treatment, chosen. The clear gel is injected under the skin in tiny amounts with a very fine needle. The area may then be gently massaged to ensure even distribution. The gel then gives natural volume and smoothes the wrinkles. Is The Treatment Painful? A local anaesthetic cream may be applied prior to treatment. If the lips are being treated, then a dental block is given. The client will have some swelling after lip treatment which can last for 2-3 days. How Long Does a Treatment Take? This is area dependant. Approximately 30mins to an hour. Are There Side Effects? Some common injection- related reactions may occur, such as swelling, redness, pain, itching, discolouration and tenderness at implant site. These typically resolve after 1-2 days, or a week if the lips are treated. Other types of reactions are very rare. People have experienced localized reactions of a hypersensitive nature. These consist of swelling at implant site, sometimes affecting surrounding tissues. Acne-like formations have also been reported. Onset may be delayed at about 2 - 4 weeks and are self limiting. Ulceration at site could occur. Is There Anyone Who Can NOT Have The Treatment? Pregnancy, breastfeeding, presence of other dermal fillers, infections, cold sores, roaccutane within past 12 months.Email your questions to: nurse@medicalternative.com
