Do You Have...?
Smoker's lips
Laughter lines
Unwanted facial lines and wrinkles
Hollow cheeks
Or is your appearance not as youthful as you feel?
SCULPTRA™ may be just what you need.
What is it?
Sculptra™ is a long lasting, biocompatible and biodegradable substance providing gradual, natural looking reduction of your unwanted facial lines and wrinkles - without surgery! Working on the lower skin layers Sculptra™ smoothes and firms giving the desired appearance. Sculptra™'s main ingredient, poly-L-lactic acid, has been used for over 25 years in procedures such as bioresorbable sutures and bone plates and screws. Sculptra™ has been developed for facial contour treatment. About 150,000 patients have been treated since 1999, worldwide.
Treatment
Administered as a series of small injections to the desired area by our highly qualified GP's or Practice Nurses you will be reassured you are receiving the very best of care. Prior to any treatment you will have an initial consultation with one of our doctors or nurses to discuss your aims to ensure Sculptra™ is the correct treatment for you. At this stage we would resolve any concerns or questions you may have. We would also discuss the number of treatments we would anticipate you needing - usually 3-4 treatments dependant on area, age and wrinkling.
There is no need for allergy testing prior to this procedure as Sculptra™ is immunologically inert.
On completion of your Sculptra™ treatment(s) the results have been proven to last for up to 2 years, again dependant on age, wrinkling and type of procedure used.
Side Effects
The risk of your body rejecting/adversely reacting to the product is virtually nil as Sculptra™ is immunologically inert.
Common side effects would include tenderness, bruising, swelling, redness or bleeding at the injection site. These would not, generally, last for any longer than 2-6 days.

Our qualified doctors or nurses who have been trained to use the correct procedure for Sculptra™ perform the treatment. Our doctors and nurses will clean your skin and then inject Sculptra™ in the areas of your face being treated. Does the treatment hurt?
As with all injections you will feel some discomfort. It may be that you notice a brief burning sensation at the injection site. A cool cloth applied after the treatment will help to calm your skin. If necessary, your practitioner can also give you a local anaesthetic. What must I bear in mind after the treatment?
Your practitioner will give you aftercare instructions. These include massaging the treated areas of your face in the first few days after the treatment. All you need is a few minutes twice a day. Inform your practitioner if any side effects occur, for example inflammation or small bumps in the treated area. Are there any side effects?
The most common side effects with the use of Sculptra™ include injection-related side effects at the site of injection such as bleeding, tenderness or pain, redness, bruising, or swelling. These effects generally resolve in 2-6 days. One possible delayed side effect with Sculptra™ can be small bumps under the skin in the treated area. These small bumps may not be visible, and you may notice them only when you press on the treated area. These bumps tend to happen within the first 6 to 12 months after the first treatment. Occasionally these bumps go away on their own. Visible bumps, sometimes with redness or colour change to the treated area, have also been reported. As with all procedures that involve an injection through the skin, there is a risk of infection. Report any side effects to your practitioner. Are the results from Sculptra™ immediate?
No. At you first treatment visit, it may appear that Sculptra™ worked immediately because of the swelling from the injections and the water used to dilute Sculptra™. In a few days, when the swelling goes down and the water is absorbed by your body you may look as you did before your treatment. Sculptra™ takes time to work, results should be noticeable after approximately 6 weeks. Your practitioner will see you again in a few weeks to decide if you need more Sculptra™ injections.
